EARLY DAY MOTION 428 - RESPONSE BY JOHN BUTTERFILL MP (BOURNEMOUTH WEST)

14/02/2009

The branch is campaigning against the Governments commitment to the Hooper review to part privatise Royal Mail. The Branch Area we have 8 MP's: 7 Conservatives, 1 Liberal Democrat and 1 Labour MP which have received letters requesting that they do not support the Governments aim to privatise Royal Mail and keep the Post in the public domain.

Attached is a response from one of the Conservatives MP's Sir John Butterfill, his comments echoes the views of where the Conservative Party stands to a Public service and if elected to Government would no doubt privatises Royal Mail.

A Early Day Motion is currently being circulated in Parliament (EDM 428) to date there are 136 MP's who have signed the EDM, Sir John Butterfil feels he is unable to support the EDM along with many of his Conservative colleagues.

It is vital that Royal Mail remain as a Public Service and is not in any form privatised, members of the public write to their MP's to force this point.
